Tipperary and Clare have requested that the Munster MHC and U20FC Cups be renamed after two of their most famous sons.

Tipp have asked the Munster Council to change the name of the Munster MHC Cup from the TWA Airlines Cup to the John Doyle Cup. Part of Tipp’s famous ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ full back line, the Holycross-Ballycahill clubman won eight All-Ireland and 10 Munster SHC medals in a glittering career. He also won two Munster MHC medals and an All-Ireland MHC title in 1947.

Clare have also asked that the Munster U20FC trophy be named after Noel Walsh who had three stints as Banner County senior manager. He also served as chairman of Clare GAA and Munster Council.
