Clare backroom team member Daithi O’Connell took the Twitter last night to criticise the decision to award Tipperary a controversial penalty in the Munster SHC semi-final.
Aidan McCarthy was also sin-binned by referee James Owens for fouling Jake Morris on the Mackey Stand sideline of the LIT Gaelic Grounds. However, because the incident happened inside the 20-metre line, Owens deemed that it was a goal-scoring opportunity and awarded a penalty which was scored by Jason Forde.
“Tipp got a PENALTY for a foul that was committed closer to the Ennis Road than it was to the goal line, mad stuff," tweeted O'Connell, who added: "no attack on the referee intended here, just an observation on how bizarre this rule is."
TweetLets put this into a little more context, Tipp got a PENALTY for a foul that was committed closer to the Ennis Road than it was to the goal line, mad stuff 😳 @MrJackieTee @DaloAnto pic.twitter.com/JAGX0wgFay
