County PRO Ger Ryan brings us all the latest news from the Premier County.
ALLIANZ FOOTBALL LEAGUE ROUNDS 1 AND 2
Tipperary's Senior Footballers had a frustrating start to their Division 2 Allianz Football League campaign on Saturday evening when they lost by just 2 points to Laois at Portlaoise having been down 10 points at half time and managing to draw level with 8 minutes left. However Laois recovered to score 2 points and snatch victory with Tipp unfortunate not to score a goal with the last kick of the game. Tipp will play Kildare in Semple Stadium at 7.30pm on Saturday, February 13th which is the first anniversary weekend of the switching on of Semple Stadium's floodlights. Kildare lost to Down last weekend so both teams will both want and need to win this game.
SENIOR HURLING CHALLENGE GAME VERSUS DUBLIN
Tipperary will play Dublin in a Senior Hurling challenge game at St. Brigid's GAA Club (Russell Park), Castleknock at 7.30pm on Saturday evening next, February 13th. The game marks the opening of the all weather pitch, hurling wall and 6 new dressing rooms at St. Brigids. It will be preceded at 5.30pm with a Camogie game between Dublin and Kilkenny. The new facilities will be opened at 4.30pm by Criostoir Ó Cuana, Uachtarán, Cumann Luthchleas Gael and blessed by Fr. Walter Harris, retired PP of Blanchardstown, a native of Ballylooby and a great Tipperary hurling fan of many decades standing. St. Brigid's has often played host to Tipperary teams on their way to Croke Park and it is great to have Tipperary playing on the occasion of these excellent facilities being opened. Among the Tipperary stalwarts in the club are Don O'Mahony from Annacarty, a founding and still serving committee member of the Tipperary Supporters Club and Jerry Nolan of Boherlahan-Dualla, who for many years "minded" the door of Tipperary dressing rooms. We hope Tipperary supporters in the capital will be able to make their way to Russell Park for what promises to be a great occasion.
JOHN COSTIGAN RUNNING FOR VICE CHAIR OF MUNSTER COUNCIL
Tipperary County Board has nominated John Costigan to run for Vice Chairman of Munster Council at its annual convention on March 5th. John is currently Tipperary's Central Council representative and was Chairman of Tipperary County Board from 2006 to 2008. A vastly experienced official at all levels and a former inter-county hurler, John is eminently qualified for this position and we wish him every success in his endeavours to get elected.
