Doohamlet club notes

September 15, 2021

Doohamlet G.F.C. Reserve team played Inniskeen in Grattan Park on Tuesday the 7th of September on what was a foggy evening in the Platinum Tanks R.F.C. Crawley Cup Semi-final.  However, we fell to a narrow defeat against Inniskeen in what was a bravely fought battle.

Doohamlet got off to a great start with three unanswered points; the first point of the game came from our half forward Michael Marray, followed closely by a point from Oisin O Neill and Ciaran Markey.  Some great play from the team resulted in two more points one from midfielder Emmet Mc Manus and the second from full forward Aidan Marray.  This left the score at the first water break Doohamlet 0-5 Inniskeen 0-3.  After the first water break Oisin O Neill was on fire with three points in succession two from well-placed frees.  Inniskeen notched up two more points however a foul on Cillian Walshe in the square results in a penalty for Doohamlet.  Oisin O Neill steps up to the mark and confidently places the ball in the back of the net, leaving the score at half-time Doohamlet 1-9 Inniskeen 0-6.  The second half was a slow burner for Doohamlet and Inniskeen score four unanswered points taking the score at the second water break Doohamlet 1-9 Inniskeen 0-10.

In the last quarter Oisin O Neill converts a free and Kevin Mc Ardle gets a point from play.  Eric Coleman who was just introduced into the game is pulled down on a run and our second penalty of the game is awarded.  Oisin O Neill places steps up and scores his second goal of the evening and before the final whistle puts another point on the scoreboard leaving the final score Doohamlet 2-12 Inniskeen 0-19.  Inniskeen came out winners by the narrowest of margins, but it wasn’t for lack of grit or determination that the team lost out on a spot in the final, they fought hard to the final whistle with some great play from all over the field.  A word of thanks to manager Greg Duffy, selector Dessie Mc Bennett and the team for their commitment and hard work throughout the season.
