Mc Elvaneys Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship Semi-Final

On Saturday evening last we took on our neighbours Cremartin in the semi-final of the Mc Elvaney Waste and Recycling Intermediate Cup semi-final.  Things didn’t go according to plan and we ended up losing by the narrowest of margins after extra time.

Our half forward Hugh Mc Ginn opens up our account with a well-placed point in the first minute of the game and puts a second one over from play just before the water break leaving the score at the first water break Doohamlet 0-2 Cremartin 0-6.  After play resumes Barry Mc Ginn scores a point followed by a great point from a free taken by Paul Mc Ardle at a very awkward angle, leaving the score at half-time Doohammlet 0-4 Cremartin 0-8.

At the start of the second half Colin Walshe replaces Niall J Connolly.  Colin gives the team a great boost by placing the ball in the back of the net in the opening seconds.  Doohamlet take control of the game with Barry Mc Bennett showing his scoring ability by putting three points in a row over the bar. (Darren Ducksey Connolly replaces Sean Markey.)  Doohamlet continue their scoring with points from Paul Mc Ardle and Barry Mc Bennett leaving the score at the water break Doohamlet 1-9 Cremartin 0-8.  On return to play Doohamlet push on and score a further two points coming from Colin Walshe and Paul Mc Ardle.  Our team captain Barry Mc Bennett scores a further two points and Damien Ward adds to the tally with a fine point. ( Oisin O Neill replaces Paul Mc Ardle. ) After an inexplicable amount of injury time Cremartin score a goal to equalise and bring the game to extra time.  In the first ten minutes of extra time Colin Walshe and Gavin King score a point each, then came a well worked goal that started with Barry Mc Ginn who played onto Sean Markey then to Declan Walshe who plays it onto Barry Mc Bennett who taps it onto Colin Walshes who finishes it in style in the back of the net.  Half time score Doohamlet 2-16 Cremartin 2-17.  The second half of extra time Declan Walshe scores a point from play.( Micheál Marray replaces Damien Ward.)  Our final score of the evening comes from Marty Hughes leaving the final score Doohamlet 2-18 Cremartin 2-19.  This was a great performance from our team starting from our goalkeeper James Casey our full back line of Jason Mc Elroy, Marty Hughes and Ryan Ingram and our half back line of Gavin King, Connor Marray, and Declan Walshe and from our mid-fielders  Ciarian Mc Manus and Barry Mc Bennett(capt). Our forwards Hugh Mc Ginn, Damien Ward, Barry Mc Ginn, Paul Mc Ardle, Niall Johnny Connolly and Sean Markey, put in a good performance with a good contribution to the scoreboard   Our subs used were Colin Walshe who proved his ability as a footballer and Oisin O Neill and Michael Marray who put in a good effort on the day.    Doohamlet team:  James Casey, Ryan Ingram, Martin Hughes(0-1) Jason Mc Elroy, Gavin King(0-1) Conor Marray, Declan Walshe(0-1),  Barry Mc Bennett(Capt.)(0-6), Kieran Mc Manus, Hugh Mc Ginn(0-2), Damien Ward(0-1) Barry Mc Ginn(0-1)Niall Johnny Connolly, Paul Mc Ardle(0-3) Sean Markey.  Subs used Colin Walshe(2-2) for Niall Johnny Connollly, Oisin O Neill for Paul Mc Ardle and Micheál Marray for Damien Ward.

Each player from our goal keeper, backs, midfielders and forwards fought a hard battle and showed true grit and determination.  They worked well together as a team to the end but unfortunately were beaten in the end by Killanny.   This brings our U-17 season to an end for 2020.  Doohamlet GFC wish to thank all the players and management for their commitment and hard work through these unprecedented times.  Team: Nathan Casey, David Mc Ginn, Mark Burns, Dylan Duffy, Eric Coleman, Emils Zepp, Mattie Duffy, Dylan Mc Kenna Ciaran Markey,  Shane Mc Bennett, Eoin Coleman,  Eddie Coleman, Tommy Duffy, Oran Mc Cormack, Donnachta Mc Mahon, Jamie Casey.
