GREENFIELD FOODS SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Inniskeen 1-12
Latton 0-11
A hungrier, more economical Inniskeen booked their place in the next round of the senior football championship at the expense of a wasteful Latton, who now exit the series, in this entertaining and at times exciting contest that built to a nerve tingling finish in St Mary's Park, Castleblayney.
Inniskeen were only headed twice in the entire contest, in the opening minute and that after 7 minutes when Latton took a one point lead but thereafter Inniskeen always held a slight edge and made better use of the chances that came their way, while Latton were wasteful in their finishing, hitting a total of 13 wides in all, 8 in the 1st half.
Inniskeen led at half-time by 1-6 to 0-5 and withstood strong Latton pressure during the 2nd half, although at times, their goal did enjoy something of a charmed life, but striking on counter attacks, they had opened a 5 points lead by the 22nd minute and while Latton got it down to 3 with just minutes remaining, Inniskeen defended stoutly and sealed the issue with a breakaway .8 minutes into stoppage time.
