Ballinabrackey and Summerhill players exhausted after their efforts at Lomans Park Trim

A little bit ike the Olympics the eagerly awaited first round of the Meath Football Championship has come and gone. Since last Thursday clubs have been putting months of planning and preparation into action. It all started last Thursday with the meeting of Slane and Moylagh in the junior and came to a conclusion yesterday evening with a titanic struggle between Keegan Cup holders Summerhill and Ballinabrackey.

Sunday 11th August

An just like that round 1 of the Meath football championship has come to a conclusion.

Skryne surprise last years finalists Ratoath. Simonstown with three to spare in Navan. The holders survive a stern test from the Bracks. A depleted Walterstown are too good for O’Mahonys. Wins for Blackhall and Moynalvey

Saturday 10th August

A day of late comebacks with wins for Trim, Dunshaughlin and Ballivor with the last kick of the ball. St. Colmcilles hit Seneschalstown for three majors. Oldcastle raise four green flags at Pairc Tailteann. No trouble for St. Vincents in Dunderry.

Seven games tonight in the Meath football championship. In Pairc Tailteann Wolfe Tones had the bare minimum to spare over Gaeil Colmcille in a very cagey affair. Caolan Ward’s accuracy from frees proving the difference. Dunboyne had no such problems against Curraha in Dunshaughlin.

Thursday August 8th

Goals from Ethan Harding (2) and Sean Murray gave Slane a platform for a comfortable win over Moylagh in the first round of the Junior Football Championship. Last years Junior B winners led at the break 2-3 to 1-2 at Pairc Tailteann.
