In the end Summerhill were worthy winners of the 2023 Keegan Cup beating holders Ratoath in one of the best finals seen in years at Pairc Tailteann.
Ratoath got their year off to a great start by defeating St. Colmcilles in the Division 1A FL final and their early championship form suggested that they were the team to beat.
Summerhill went through the entire campaign unbeaten recording wins over Ballinabrackey, Wolfe Tones and Gaeil Colmcille in Group D before overcoming Trim in the quarter final and Donaghmore Ashbourne in the semi.
Dunshaughlin’s stock continues to rise and after topping Group A they were very unlucky to lose out to Ratoath in the quarter-final.
Simonstown topped Group B but the loss of influential forward Padraig McKeever in the early stages of the quarter-final against Wolfe Tones left them with too much to do.
The Tones will feel that they left a final day outing behind them going under to the holders Ratoath in a low scoring semi-final 0-7 to 0-6.
St. Colmcille’s topped Group C with five points from six and it’s only a matter of time before they feature on county final day.
The relegation battle offered a whole new championship with a host of ‘big hitters’ looking over their shoulder. Curraha, Gaeil Colmcille, Seneschalstown and Ballinabrackey survived at the first attempt and in the end it was a return to the Intermediate ranks for Moynalvey after their final loss to Skryne.
