Zak Moran to be remembered forever at Schools finals

June 15, 2023

The Zak Moran Memorial Cup was presented by the Moran family to Cumann na mBunscol Coiste na Mí

The Allianz Meath Cumann na mBunscol Hurling and Camogie finals take place for the first time in four years at Lomans Park Trim this Friday and Saturday.

It will also be the first time the Zak Moran Memorial Cup will be presented to the winners of the Boys Division 2 hurling final between Kilmessan and St. Pauls. The cup will be presented by Shane Flannery (Zak's coach from Navan O' Mahonys) and Zak's cousin Anna.

The Zak Moran Memorial Cup was presented by the Moran family, Silverlawns, Navan, to Cumann na mBunscol Coiste na Mí in memory of their beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend Zak, who sadly passed away on May 2nd, 2022, aged just 11 years old, following a courageous and determined battle with illness. Zak was a cherished pupil in St. Paul’s Primary School, Navan and a hugely popular member of Navan O’Mahony’s GAA Club.

Zak had many interests and hobbies including Star Wars, Lego and music, but above all, had a great love for sport and GAA in particular. He adored O’Mahony’s, Meath and Kerry where he has extended family, and could regularly be seen proudly wearing his array of GAA jerseys. He played both football and hurling in school and in O’Mahony’s but had a special love for hurling in particular. Zak always played sport with great enthusiasm, passion, determination, skill and above all fairness and respect.

We thank Zak’s parents Catriona and Dave and his siblings Matthew, Bevin and Danny for their kindness and generosity in presenting this very special cup to Cumann na mBunscol Coiste na Mí. Zak will forever hold a special place in all our hearts and the spirit of Laoch Zak will live long in our memory.
