Fiachra Ward - Wolfe Tones

Wolfe Tones 2-7 Naomh Conaill 0-12

Wolfe Tones claimed the Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta senior football title after extra time with one point to spare over Donegal’s Naomh Conaill (Glenties) at CLG Naomh Muire Mullaghderg, County Donegal.

The visitors got a great start when Oisin Martin found Fiachra Ward with a perfect pass and the full forward made no mistake in finding the Naomh Conaill net after four minutes.

In a low scoring opening 30 three pointed frees from Caolan Ward gave the Meath club a 1-3 to 0-4 half time lead.

Scores were at a premium in the second half and Wolfe Tones had to with until the 47th minute for their only point, Daniel O’Neill with a great effort.

Caolan Ward had a chance to seal the win in injury time but his free just went wide and the game went to extra time.

His brother Fiachra got a hand to a high ball for the Tones second goal 7 minutes into the first half of extra time. The sides went in level again at the break 2-4 to 0-10.

Points from substitute Gary McFadden and Alan Lynam had the game all square again as the clock ticked down before half back Sean Penny sent over the winner with injury time looming.

Wolfe Tone scorers: Fiachra Ward 2-0; Caolan Ward 0-3,3f; Donal O’Neill, Gary McFadden, Alan Lynam, Sean Penny 0-1 each.
