Castletown 1-9 Navan O’Mahonys 2-14
Castletown made the trip to Paddy O’Brien Park on Thursday evening hoping to make it 2 wins from 2 but unfortunately the home side made sure to put a stop to that.
It was the home side that opened the scoring of the game with 2 points from play within the first 2 minutes. Castletown responded brilliantly with a well worked goal - Rian McConnell doing brilliantly for Robbie Hoey to finish with the ball in the back of the net inside 5 minutes. The next 15 minutes saw a mixture of points from both sides with scores coming from Rian McConnell (1 free, 1 from play), Tommy Smith and Seamus Doherty. It was O’Mahonys that ended the first half strongest with 2 more points along with a goal on 30 mins to bring them right back into the game and push in front.
Half time score : Castletown 1-4 O'Mahonys 1-7
Castletown opened the scoring for the 2nd half with a further point from a free for Rian McConnell with 60 seconds of the restart. It was NOM that took back momentum and went on to dominate the third quarter of the game - with 3 more points from play and a further goal all within 6 minutes of the restart. Two further scores from Castletown kept us in the game but with 4 more points from the home side the gap between the teams was too much. A quiet final quarter for both teams seen no score for NOM and only two scores from Castletown in the last 15 - one from play for Tommy Smith and another free for Rian McConnell.
