Navan O’ Mahony’s 1-10 Gaeil Colmcille 2-11
A late goal from Gaeil Colmcille abruptly stopped the momentum Navan O’Mahony’s had been building in the second half in Grangegodden this morning and was enough for the home side to claim the points on offer.
Gaeil Colmcille opened the scoring with two points from play. Navan O’Mahony’s talisman Jake Regan added his name to the scoreboard for the first time with a pointed free. Gaeil Colmcille had a lot of possession in the middle of the first half and after the first quarter, had extended their lead to four points.
Brian O’Hanlon made no mistake standing over a free in the 21st minute to score Navan O’Mahony’s second point of the game before Regan did likewise a few minutes later. At the interval, there was four points between the sides.

Gaeil Colmcille got off to a dream start in the second half, raising a white flag within seconds of the throw in. The deficit was extended to eight points less than a minute later when the hosts broke through the Navan O’Mahony’s defence to rattle the net.
The visitors recovered well and soon kicked into gear to dominate much of the remainder of the half. Midfielder Conor Finnegan coolly kicked a point from play which seemed to settle Darren Fay’s side. Eight minutes into the second half, Cathal Smyth found himself with two options as he ran towards the goal. With both Regan and corner forward Jack McConnell free, Regan won a well-placed pass, leaving the Gaeil Colmcille netminder no chance.
This left three between the sides before Regan pointed from play to bring the gap down to two once again. The next ten minutes were very much point for point, with Gaeil Colmcille managing to maintain a buffer of two to three points.
A beauty of a kick from Regan, curling as it made its way towards the goals, narrowed the gap to two points yet again with two minutes remaining. A ball along the ground near the O’Mahony’s goals proved dangerous when the Kells forward kicked it along the ground to the net, ensuring his sides victory. A late free narrowed the gap to four points but was not enough.
