FL Div 4: Penalties deny 'Drums'

Drumconrath's Stephan Crosby

Kilmainhamwood 2-9 Drumconrath 0-10

Two penalties, one just before half time and another in injury time in the 2nd half saw Kilmainhamwood edge out a determined Drumconrath side in this Round 2 A League match played in sunny North Meath.

In what was a close fought match the Home side struck first with an early free but soon Drums edged ahead with points from Steven Crosby and Pado Farrelly. Four points in a row from Kilmainhamwood from the 10th to the 16th minute saw them lead by 3 points and well in control.

Drumconrath got more into the game with Crosby pointing twice to close the gap but the concession of the 1st hammer blow of penalty number 1 had the Wood in control 1-5 to 0-4 at the break.

Kilmainhamwood struck first again in the 2nd half with 2 early points and while Tomas Conlon and Crosby replied the 3rd quarter ended with another two Wood point to see them lead 1-6 to 0-6 but more so the 2nd hammer blow to Drums hopes as Robert McEntaggert received a 2nd yellow and the visitors were down to 14 and a mountain to climb.

Battle hard they did and slowly but surely they whittled away the Home sides lead with points from Crosby (2), Conlon and Matthew Durnin but the goal they needed to take the lead never came and instead the 3rd hammer blow in the shape of the second Kwood penalty settled the issue
