Thursday 30th July was a special night for Slane GFC club memeber Mick Scully when he launched his book '10 Finals' in Slane Men’s Shed....
Special thank you to Slane Men's Shed for a fantastic evening for the launch of a new booklet dedicated to the 10 Championship Finals our club have contested.
10 finals in years 1918, 1929, 1952, 1955, 1961, 1968, 1983, 1984, 1993 & 2018.
An enormous amount of effort and research was put into creating this insightful look back on the history of our club.
Mick Scully, along with John Mongey and his brother John Scully, set out on the task of documenting the 10 county finals for people to read back on and learn about the history of the club, that people may not be familiar with.
The contents of the book were sourced from the archives of the Meath Chronicle, the Drogheda Independent, and members and players from years gone by.
Mick Scully spoke on how the idea came about, with the help of John Mongey and his brother John Scully's tech knowledge helped with creating it. Mick told some great stories about the club and about the poem "Iomáin na Bóinne" which tells the story of an 18th Century game of football that happened across the Boyne in Fennor. Mick also mentioned the fantastic facilities the club has built out in Toddy Harding park in Rossin in recent years,
Club Chairman Peter Mooney was presented with the booklet on the night by John Deacon, and thanked Mick for the tireless work put into creating this booklet, and thanked the Slane Men's Shed's fantastic facilities to allow for this research and night to take place.
Cllr. Wayne Harding spoke fondly of the Slane Men's Shed's fantastic facilities pictured below, with a full workshop, bowling area, kitchen, gym, pool table, and computers all available for use for anyone who wishes to join.
Thank you to everyone who joined us tonight to launch this wonderful booklet. It will be available to purchase tomorrow night at the clubhouse from 8pm for €10, which is fantastic value for a detailed history of our club.
Special thanks to John Deacon and Pat Doyle who hosted on the night and ensured sanitation stations were available and used by all members.
