Tom Muldoon, another vital link with the Meath team of the early 1960's has passed on to his eternal reward. He was 83 years old.
Tom was a key part of the Royal squad around this era and regularly experienced senior championship action.
In 1962 he lined out at midfield against Cavan in the All Ireland junior decider before a packed crowd in Ardee. Then junior inter county football was a much stronger grade as counties could all pick from their 'second string'.
Our wind asisted neighbours appeared to be in the driving seat and were on level terms 3-4 to our 1-10 as the game entered its 'dying stages'. But up strode the left footed Tom to guide the winning point between the post and sealed an historic victory.

Later that year Tom captained his club Ballinlough to the county senior decider.
He played most of his football with Ballinlough but later togged out with an emerging Killallon XV.
A great all round sportsman, Tom Muldoon hurled with his native Kilskyre, winning a number of intermediate championships in the Black and Amber.

We include fine reminders of Tom Muldoon the person and Tom Muldoon the sportsman from both the Ballinlough club and St. Pauls GAA, Clonmellon.
Ballinlough GFC
Ballinlough GFC would like to pass on our sympathies to the Muldoon Family on the sad passing of Tom Muldoon.
Tom started playing football for Ballinlough in the mid 50’s culminating with what was the clubs only Senior County Final appearance in 1962 when he Captained the side.
Also in 1962, Tom was the man who scored the winning point for Meath in the All-Ireland Junior Championship when they overcame Cavan on a scoreline of 1-11 to 3-04 in Ardee. Tom was also a member of the Meath Senior county panel in the early 60’s, unfortunately a lean period for the county team. Tom also hurled for Kilskyre throughout the 50’s and 60’s and finally finished up his playing career with Killallon, having played well into his 40’s.
Ar dheis de go raibh a anam. May Tom rest in peace.
St. Pauls GFC Clonmellon
With great sadness St. Pauls GFC Clonmellon sends its sincerest & heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Tom Muldoon who sadly passed away early this morning.
Tom who lived in Cloran, did great volunteering work in the community here in Clonmellon in the past with organisations such as the Scouts & Clonmellon Town Development and also with St. Pauls GFC. He served the club with distinction over the years; he was a selector on our Intermediate winning team back in 1989 and the Muldoon association with our club continues to this day both on and off the field of play as his son Michael is our current Club Chairperson, his son-in-law Joe coaches our U7’s & serves on the club committee and four of Toms grandchildren Conor, Ciaran, Niall and Dara all line out for our various underage teams.
Tom, who originally came from Killallon was a keen and gifted footballer & hurler in his day. He was a central figure for Meath when they won the 1962 All-Ireland junior football championship when they defeated Cavan by 1-11 to 3-4 in the final. He scored the winning point in the final to book a special place for himself in Meath GAA history. Tom had an illustrious career at club and county level accumulating so many medals along the way, he was a well-known performer on the football and hurling fields of north Meath from the late 1950s right through into the '70s. Tom started his playing career with Ballinlough circa 1956 and also hurled with Kilskyre around the same time. As well as winning the junior All-Ireland in '62, he was on the Meath senior panel for four or five seasons and he finally finished off his career playing with Killallon. With Kilskyre, Tom won county IHC medals in 1965 and '69, as well as a junior county title in 1961.

Tournaments were a big thing at the time and he collected a Bohermeen Football Tournament with Ballinlough in 1956 and a Dunboyne Football Tournament in 1964. In 1962, he was to the fore as Ballinlough qualified for their only county SFC final appearance, but were beaten by Trim on the big day. That same year, Tom made his dramatic intervention when sprung from the bench in the All-Ireland JFC final. Near the autumn of his career, Tom was involved with Killallon when the club was re-emerging and he featured on a young team that got to the 1966 Meath JFC decider only to lose to Trim. Having started out with Ballinlough at the age of 21, Tom played until he was well into his 40s before hanging up the boots.
To his companion Ann, family members Thomas, Annmarie & Joe, Michael & Frances, Fiona & Joe, Bernadette & T.J, grandchildren Conor, Ciarán, Niall, Ava, Grainne, Maebh, Ryan, Dara, Ellie & Seán, his brother Noel and sister Sheila at this sad time we offer our deepest condolences on the loss of a great Gael & friend of the club.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Tom's Funeral Mass will take place at 11am on Friday May 15 in St. Peter & Paul Church Clonmellon
