
This day 19 years ago Meath defeated Dublin to claim the Leinster Under 21 football championship title.
Three years previous this crop fell to Dublin in the opening round of the Leinster MFC at Pairc Tailteann.
The management team of Paul Kenny, Robbie O'Malley, Johnny Sullivan and Johnny Henry saw their charges defeat Laois 1-7 to 0-8, Louth 0-13 to 0-4 and Wicklow 1-11 to 2-5 on their way to the final, played in Newbridge on April 7th 2001.
Aided by the wind Meath led 0-6 to 0-2 at half time and with some outstanding defending the Royals prevailed on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-5 to claim their 8th Leinster crown at this level.
Wayne McCarthy, who was later to transfer to Simonstown, was Dublin's only scorer on the day.

After the game Meath captain David Gallagher was presented with the cup.
