Meath captain Robbie O'Malley raises the NFL Division 1 Cup at Croke Park

25 years ago today, Meath celebrated winning the National Football League Division 1 title at Armagh’s expense.

On May 1st, 1994, the Robbie O’Malley captained Royals registered a 2-11 to 0-8 victory over the Orchard County at Croke Park to claim the county’s seventh Division 1 crown.

Bernard Flynn raised two green flags for the winners while Trevor Giles announced his arrival on the inter-county scene with a return of seven points.

Meath qualified for the quarter finals along with Laois from Division 2 and were promoted to Division 1 for the 1994-95 NFL. Down were defeated in the last eight 0-13 to 1-9 and neighbours Westmeath, who had topped Division 4, were beaten in the semi final 0-15 to 0-11 at Croke Park.
