Finnerty stood out at centre-half for the Sky Blues at the Ricoh Arena with development coach Jason Farndon name-checking the 19-year-old afterwards: "I thought he did well, handled himself quite well.

"He went through the game pretty much unnoticed, which is good. He was steady and did what was asked of him really."

Finnerty was a regular for the Villa under-18's in the Premier League and has represented the Republic of Ireland at various level up to under-19.

He comes from a strong GAA background with his father Padraig having played with both Meath and Skryne while his mother Sheila (nee McCormack) was a neice of one of Cavan's greatest footballing heroes, Phil 'The Gunner' Brady.
