Ladies All Ireland Final

(Oldest Posts First)

Yesterday was a great tonic to last weekends disappointment. Really excellent team performance against the reigning All Ireland champions. Shauna Wall, Kerrie Rowe and Vikki Wall Wall were excellent.

Another All Ireland final against Dublin with a chance of revenge for the Leinster final which I feel we left behind us. Hopefully the Meath public can come out and support like they did the previous finals.

Not entirely sure how I butchered Kerrie Cole's name.

Wasn't expecting a win last weekend. Great to have another outing in Croker, hopefully work out better than last one.

That's an excellent Meath women's team we have.

They were all over Kerry like a rash at the weekend and even in the closing quarter had more tenacity and much more sharpness in their half of the field. They're a joy to watch and have been for years.

Pound for pound, the women's team of 2020-Present are one of the best ever Meath teams at any level.

The final will be a toss-up, as all women's matches tend to be, but they can absolutely win it. They have good scoring threats, strong runners, exemplary fitness and steel.

My only worry would be the tendency to kick 4/5 wides too many, and the tendency to stick to the handpassing build up play and run themselves into cul-de-sacs. They got away with it last weekend as Kerry were wasteful in front of goal when getting shots away. Also, incredibly short tactic I know, but Vikki Wall needs to be on the ball as much as possible with space in front of her. She needs the right delivery and the right support however.

That could indeed be it! I was watching replays of her goal at the weekend.

Anyone know if the Hill is open for this? For the 2021 final, it was open and I think it helped create a much better atmosphere than past Ladies' All Ireland finals.

Super performance against Kerry. There really is something about this team that bit of grit and determination as we have seen historically in the Meath jersey. Decent Meath crowd in Tullamore. Hopefully a good buzz about the county in the lead up to the final and we get big support in Croke Park .

Good luck to the ladies tomorrow. Think we have a chance to replicate 2021 which was one of the best results in my time following Meath teams. Hope there'll be a good Meath following. We vastly outnumbered Dublin 4 years ago.

Dublin had their homework done on Meath. Their tactics were fairly obvious. Didn't let Meath attackers get into their stride by fouling at every opportunity. Don't like complaining about refs but he was awful.

Replying To Fionn:  "Sounds like a lot of sour grapes there tbh.
Dublin have played Meath 3 times this year.
Dublin 2-16 v Meath 0-10 All Ireland Final.
2-19 to 0-09 in the League, and by 7pts in the Leinster Final.

Hard luck Meath today, ye will be back challenging next year.
There are a lot of young talented Meath ladies in that squad.
Definitely a lot to build on. Fair play to Dublin.
Great attendance again for the Ladies All Ireland Football Finals."
First of all taking nothing away from Dublin. They won it fair and square no doubt the better team won.I think though the previous poster has a point.Dublin were cynical they pulled and dragged Meath a fair bit anytime we got near the goal, now I'd also say in parts Dublin defended very well.Meath didnt tackle with same intensity as Dublin and to be fair we did hit Dublin with a few late tackles that could also have been punished. On Meath I thought our passing was poor, simple hand passes and freekicks/sideline kicks giving away cheaply. We were also wasteful up front and you cant be wasteful v Dublin. We didnt defend in a unit I thought and Dublin ran at us they cut us open.We will hopefully learn from this as we are a fairly young team and fair play to the all involved this year. Also good to see Hannah Tyrell be able walk off at the end and get a great ovation as she is some footballer.

On a side note, not sure VW added a lot today other than trying to flatten everyone in sight, and mouthing off constantly.

No Sour grapes at all Fionn. Better team on the day won. Meath gave Orlagh Nolan the freedom of Croke park to set up scoring chances.
Did you watch the Sunday game coverage on Sunday night and the discussion among the panellists about the systematic fouling by Dublin and it's part of their game. And these are respected former lgfa greats. Sure didn't Mick Bohan reference it after the 2021 final where he reckoned they were too soft on Meath that day after there was uproar about the fouling after Dublins victory over Donegal in the quarter final. Don't get me wrong, the ref made some unusual decisions against Dublin as well. Looked to me he didn't know how to apply the rules of ladies football.

Very disappointing not to show up at all in the final. Dublin were far superior but I'd agree the referee made some baffling decisions. The first goal must have had around 12-15 steps in the run up. Most baffling was in the second half (when the game was all but done), we won the ball around the 65 and had a three on two for once in attack. Referee called it back for a Meath free instead of playing advantage. Vikki Wall understandably is upset and referee ends up throwing the ball up. And he must have been in the way of running players a dozen times throughout.

Which players are gone to Australia now? Very frustrating for teams trying to build consistency year on year.
