Timing Of Intermediate Finals

(Oldest Posts First)

I notice that the intermediate hurling final is throwing in at 12 this Sunday. Given the senior hurling final isn't down till 3 surely a 1pm start would have been preferable. Or better still 2pm and 4pm. 12 is a little "off-Broadway" for me.

Worse than that, I see the intermediate football final is fixed for 12 on Saturday week. It seems to me a very low key time for what is one of the more important games in the county every year. I believe the reason for this is to give more prominence to the ladies final to be held in PT in the afternoon. Wouldn't start times of 2pm and 4pm be better?

Alternatively, why couldn't PT host the ladies junior, intermediate and senior finals on the Saturday or Sunday and give over the same for the men on the alternative day.

I would imagine the 3 hour gap is so that there are no changes to the schedule if extra time is required in a previous match.

So if there is no extra time people have to wait around an hour and a half. Ive never seen a 3 hour gap for a double header.

What's wrong with giving the LGFA some profile? Probably just my own opinion but it seems like some in the men's game Meath weren't thrilled at he ladies recent All Ireland wins. They're still second class citizens when they looking for facilities like Dungany. Wouldn't do a bit of harm to get more families involved in GAA and look more welcoming to boys and girls.

wow. That is mad. The Intermediate football final at 12 noon on a Saturday? Sorry, any major final at 12 is not right but the second most high profile final of the year. I am lost for words. What a dis-service.

Meath Hill have a good bit of rural countryside from Cavan border at Kingscourt to Louth border. Surely Kilmainham have to have the smallest pick, them or Boardsmill

This shouldn't be a zero-sum game. The LGFA and Camogie Association should get all the profile in the world but it shouldn't be to the detriment of others. The LGFA playing their intermediate final on a Friday night in Cortown (no offence to Friday nights or Cortown) doesn't do those teams justice either.
Not sure I agree with people not trilled at Meath ladies winning. You must not have been in the Fairgreen that wet Monday evening.
I think the LGFA get plenty of access to Dunganny, even though the LGFA and GAA merger hasn't happened yet. The GAA in Meath seem to be going out of their way to show fairness, for whatever reason.

Inter hurling final has mostly started at 1.30 over the years and senior at 3.30
Never was at 12 and rare it was 1.00
They played the junior final at 11am a few weeks ago
Hope these times are looked at next year because its not ideal for any final of any importance

Players love the 12 noon throw ins. No waiting around all day and plenty of celebration time after!
