Maybe they're victims of their own success but Ratoath should have more nominations.

i don't think its strictly about the best 15 players in the County, more about , across the various grades , what lads excelled over the course of the year in a given position...

By that logic we just name senior champions. Which would be Summerhill first 15.

My team of the year would be:
1.Darren Berrill
2.Ronan Lynch
3.Ronan Ryan
4.Sean O'Hare
5.Adam McDonnell
6.Donal Keogan
7.Podge Geraghty
8.Adam Flanagan
9.Alan Bowden
10.Ruairi Kinselley
11.Eoghan Frayne
12.Conor McWeeney
13.Podge McGowan
14.Keith Curtis
15.Barry Dardis

I think a lot of lads are hard done by particularly Gary Breslin who was brilliant all year but is up against Alan Bowden who was also top class. Podge McGowan obviously getting my pick of Costello as he was Slanes main man also winning a championship pushes him forward to. A lot of quality players missing out who probably deserve to be in here with a bit of re-jigging to certain positions but Well done to all

How can the Meath SFC finalists only be worthy of two nominations? A game which they lost after extra time.

Cos they were extremely poor all year, lost to Cilles, blessed to get over Dunshaughlin, blessed in more ways than one in semi final and didn't have any standout performances in final aside from Daithi Mc Gowan, as another poster said this is about players who excelled for their clubs.

A difficult one to pick but if you look at where these teams came from this year and who were their stand out performers and its weighted towards youth and top scorer's in there respective Championships. Also how would this team fair out against a Colm O'Rourke 15. Would love to see this happening who ever makes the grade.

Sean Muddiman
Ben Wyer
Ronan Ryan
John Lavelle
Adam McDonnell
Donal Keogan
Podge Geraghty
Adam O'Neill
Alan Bowden
Ruairi Kinsella
Eoghan Frayne
Conor McWeeney
Mathew Costello
Keith Curtis
Josh Harford

Extremely poor all year lol?? Sorry I was under the impression that Ratoath won the league and only lost the Championship after extra time (which could of gone either way ,Ratoath kicked two wides in last few mins )

So by this logic how poor were the rest of teams in Meath ??

They did play poorly for them - and yet still won the league and were the second best team in the Championship. They lost to Cilles in the group stage but fielded and experimental team as they had already qualified! Several of them played in the hurling too and I personally think they were out on their feet at year end!

Daithi McGowan was excellent all year - even in the games where Ratoath struggled and would certainly make any team of the year I would be picking! But here's the thing - the Ratoath lads don't care about that stuff!

I suspect Ratoath will take a different approach next year - I doubt the league will be a big focus and I think they will manage their fitness to peak for the Championship.

I still see Summerhill and Ratoath as the top 2 teams - and I think the nearest challengers will be Tones, Dunshaughlin and my perennial picks Ashbourne!!

From the players they have nominated I would select the below 15. I would not agree however with a lot of their nominations.

1 Sean Muddiman - Summerhill
2 Ben Wyer - Ratoath
3 Ronan Ryan - Summerhill
4 John Lavelle - Summerhill
5 Adam McDonnell - Summerhill
6 Donal Keogan - Rathkenny
7 Podge Geraghty - Summerhill
8 Adam Flanagan - Summerhill
9 Alan Bowden - Duleek/Bellewstown
10 Ruairi Kinsella - Dunshaughlin
11 Eoghan Frayne - Summerhill
12 Conor McWeeney - Kilbride
13 Mathew Costello - Dunshaughlin
14 Keith Curtis - Rathkenny
15 Barry Dardis - Summerhill

If they are being realistic this would be the 15 picked from the players nominated in their positions. I would not expect this to be close to the team that is selected however as their are to many Senior clubs referenced and not enough from N Meath or Junior B teams.

This is hilarious. Going back to the nominations I second-guessed 13 of your 15 picks following the tone of your post. Anyone would think we never had great junior or intermediate players that could make the Meath team by your logic.
Just a few that spring to mind are some of the 80s heroes - Bernie Flynn and Robbie O'Malley (Cilles Intermediate), Brian Stafford (K'wood Intermediate), PJ Gillic (Carnaross Junior), Martin O'Connell (Micks Inter).
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think using senior as the principle gauge here does not properly reflect the theme of the original post.

I went to a number of senior games this year and to state the best performances largely came from that grade is madness. Some of the football was very poor. Great final saved the day!

9 of the team selected above were picked in the end.

I thinks its a great idea but seriously how can Matt Costello be left out? Some lads made a few teams of the week but didn't make the final 15 and won the championship again very strange. Id love to know the criteria for inclusion because there seems to be no pattern. is it just down to the two lads who are on the POD surely not. Sure anyone could do that. Looking forward to seeing Meath Hoganstands awards. Hopefully the championship winners will dominate these awards, just like the National All Stars...

Seriously how can two guys actually cover all the games and pick the right players, Relying on articles written in the Chronicle or her on HS which is always weighted to the teams who wins the tie. Club PRO's would be out of a job if they don't big up their own. Just saying.
