Replying To Blackspot09:  "Problem is the 3 best midfielders in the county are in the panel in Jones McGowan and Flynn. So all well and good saying lets fix the midfield issue. Fix it how? With who? There is no other midfielders in the county that could do better than those 3.

Hopefully the young lads on the 20s panel like gray kinlough emmanuel etc will be good enough to come in and replace but they certainly aren't ready yet."
Good lads but they are not even the best midfielders in their own club. Ratoath have more athletic lads with more all round ability. That is why they were so dominant. And they often win while losing the midfield battle. Meaning there are plenty of good midfielders around.
Over the last few years I wondered what Meath selectors do.

Replying To Royal.Legend:  "This meath team is far from a waste of space and your post is embarrassing, yes the last three results has been disappointing and made worse after expectations went into overdrive after the cork game, this is a young meath side under a brand new management team and patience is going to be needed but I'm confident improvement will come, dublin in navan will be a big occasion let's get behind them and hope meath put in a huge performance and let's see where it takes us, we are particularly safe now unless freak results happen in both division 2 and Sam maguire so there's still allot to look forward and our season is far from over."
Last 3 results have been a disaster ! Not just disapointing ! Dreadful stuff ! The old patience word ive been hearing about since 2016 ! This team has never been as bad ! Dublin will come to navan and beat us no doubt ! Dont care what anyone says mcgill should be on this panel ! We need him !

Don't agree they are not the best Midfielders in their own club and ok if there are plenty of good midfielders around other clubs bar Ratoath that could do better than the current Meath midfielders throw out a few names there instead of the usual vague "there is better players out there" waffle

Reading over this thread this morning, one of the best assessments came a few pages back from Young_Gael.

A lot of posters on here just set themselves up for disappointment because of unreal expectations. At the minute Meath are a division 2/3 standard team and have been for a few years. There is no shame in that. That is the level of player we've been producing so that's where we are.

Players will develop...it doesn't happen overnight. Personally speaking I go to the games with a realistic picture of where we are at and it makes the games an easier watch. The games against Cork, Clare, Louth and Limerick this year have been entertaining games between evenly matched teams where the result has been in doubt until the end. We had no divine right to expect to win them from the off.

People were up in arms because we couldn't beat Limerick after Cork put 6 goals past them the week before. That was the week before.....meant nothing on Sunday. Read the Limerick leader today and their manager was happy with the reaction to that defeat and the performance his team put in against Meath. Some here would have you believe it was all down to our performance.

Same with Louth. Another entertaining game where fine margins decided the winner. Louth have been building momentum for a few years and their club championship last year was really high quality and entertaining. I was at a share of those club games and it was far ahead of what I watched in Meath. All of that seems to have put a real feel-good mood around the Louth camp, similar to what we had in 2019.

So my advice (as an Old_Gael) is to be realistic about where we're at and hope that people are working to get us to a better place. You'll enjoy the games more. The fact we could compete for the big prizes 30 years ago means nothing in real life. The players are a product of the club scene and as I've said on here before if you think a better job could be done, then get down to your club and start doing it.

Finally, someone talking a bit of sense of where Meath are currently at.....

Fully agree, we need to be realistic and in fairness I think many posters accept where we find ourselves. The days are long gone when Meath could expect to beat any team. Louth,Clare and Limerick are division two teams on merit and Meath have offered no evidence we are any better. Current management fully understand this and that in itself is a step in right direction. We played well in patches in every game to date and bar Derry could have 2/3 more points on the board. The rebuild will take time, time some posters are not willing to give the panel and no amount of mud slinging will change the facts. Take Cork as example, they looked a shambles last year, however, with an extra years fitness and s/c under their belt are looking like a decent team. Management have a plan and hopefully stick with it, it will benefit Meath football in coming years. Sit back and enjoy the journey, progress will take time.

Not a good look that Meath couldn't beat a team that had decided to vote their management team out before they played Meath and said manager has now departed.

I still feel there are good players in Meath. Perhaps a team of scouts could advise the management.Scouts that he has confidence in. It is not possible for one man to be everywhere and follow every club and college player.

Isn't that what the selectors are supposed to be doing ?
While division 2 status is secured bar a bizarre set of results next year it looks like a lot tougher division than this one. With 2 of Kerry Monaghan Tyrone Galway & Donegal coming down and 2 of cavan a rejuvenated Down, Fermanagh Westmeath going up. Plus cork louth and one of Kildare or clare. Some on here want to give a pass for 5 years , no you get a yearly pass and if you can't get things improved in 2 years then we move on.
