Inter County Structure Vote

(Oldest Posts First)

On the 23rd October there's a huge vote at congress which could change inter county football as we know it and make the experience for us Meath supporters a very different one. The two options that seem to be the most popular are keeping the championship as it was pre Covid or a new format which flips the league and provincials. Part of me feels like Meath are close to competing for Leinsters and the traditional format would keep the prestige of a Leinster title fully intact. But I think Format B that's proposed would be the best for the GAA. For Meath it would mean Leinster in Feb-April, I think split into a group of 5 and a group of 6. With a final and possibly a semi final to be played after the groups. And then Meath playing all the division 2 teams in summer and if we finish top we're into an all Ireland quarter and if we finish 2nd or 3rd we'd be into a preliminary quarter final and like it was pre COVID if you're in the bottom 2 you're down to division 3 the next year. It would guarantee more games and guarantee 3/4 games in summer in Navan against pretty good teams so I think the pros of the change would outweigh the cons. Just wondering what do other people around the county think of the possible change?

Be some amount of games for intercounty players - would they have the legs for the club scene after? Some commitment.

looks to me it would signal the end of County players playing Club until August or September in this county anyway. Clubs with county players will suffer big time

Time has come to move on from provincials ,Leinster especially has been a non event for many years now and I dont expect change over the next few years. Optin B sounds good, plenty of games, however this will favour counties with the strongest panels and have affect on club games, so needs careful planning.

Anything that takes away from club games will have a negative effect on clubs and club games which in the longer term will not be good for our GAA. Giving county teams more football in effect gives county managers more control, again not good when you consider the county commitment of 5 nights/week plus as some other poster has said. Maybe none of us know as most of us are not players.

From what I hear gpa will go for plan b. With nearly all players from every county wanting it.
Don't know myself about it. I'm a purist at heart, and while I liked the old back door , the super 8s etc I wasn't a fan of. And this just seems a stretch too far. But sure we will wait and see

Split season in next year, so IC finished in June I believe. So players will all be back with clubs for basically whole summer.
