Minor Football

(Oldest Posts First)

I was reading some of the reports from this weeks Minor games and it got me thinking! St Colmcilles seem to have been in or around the final for the past few years so I thought I'd look back and see what teams have been performing at Minor level over the past 20 years - and does that feed into Senior!

Donaghmore Ashbourne have competed in 7 finals - winning 5 and losing 2
Summerhill have competed in 6 finals - winning 3 and losing 3
St Colmcilles have competed in 5 finals - winning 2 and losing 3 (4 finals since 2014)
Ratoath have competed in 4 finals - winning 3 and losing 1
Navan have competed in in 4 finals - winning 4 (3 in 2000,2001 and 2003)
Dunboyne have competed in 4 finals winning 2 and losing 2
Na Fianna have competed in 3 finals - losing all 3
Wolfe Tones, Moynalvey, Dunshaughlin, Skyrne, Round Towers, St Ciarans, St Martins all competed in and lost a final!

So does that tell us anything!! I am not so sure but I suspect Colmcilles will make the final this year - I wonder will we see that reflect into their adult teams in the near future!

Great info! Hopefully they come through for Meath too in the future.

Your figures only add up to 19 titles in 20 seasons. I'm almost certain I remember Dunshaughlin winning a MFC maybe 10 years ago, could that be the missing one?

I take it St. Ciaran's were an amalgamation of some form. Anyone know the clubs involved?

Dunshaughlin won the MFC in 2009.

Yep - Dunshaughlin won in 2009 beating Donaghmore Ashbourne by 1-14 to 1-5 - sorry not to include that! I think I had them as competing in a final but should have included them as winners!

Interestingly - Simonstown haven't contested a minor final in the years 2000 to 2019 but contested 4 Senior finals (winning 2) in the same period. Ashbourne who have won 5 Minors in that period haven't yet won a Keegan. Maybe this is their year!!

Excuse my fat fingers! - That should have been St. Cianan's! I think, although I am open to correction, that St Cianans was the name that the combination of Duleek and Bellewstown played under when they amalgamated. (i know there is a boxing club in Duleek called St Cianan's)
