It's true that a former Louth goalkeeper is being added to the back room team.

"Other players had decided the sacrifices necessary for intercounty football weren't worth it in their opinion."

Ironic that question came from a club, one of whose star players pretty much said that.

Great to see Andy mixing up his backroom team. Hopefully there is more than one change to his management team as well as a couple of additional people added to the backroom staff.
It was also great to know what he expects from next year and given out performance against Tyrone that is possible but we have to do it week in week out in the league which will be tough.

To me the main worry is players availability. If the reports about Lenihan are true then he will be a huge loss.
Andy needs to make sure he can get a couple of the following forwards involved: Dardis, McKeever, McCarthy, Hanlon and Mattimoe. These lads have been the most consistent inside forwards in the club championship over last number of years.
The even bigger issue is goalkeeper and midfield. Colgan is not first choice with Ashbourne and hasn't been most of the year. Andy needs to bring in someone who is up to standard, Duffy of Ratoath or Lynch from Kells would spring to mind.
Unfortunately midfield is a lot more difficult both Nash and Jones are unavailable. Rooney and Flanagan aren't up to scratch, is it time we try to built a new partnership, maybe bring Cian McBride in with Cian O Brien or Menton.

Couple of points thought this year was one of the better ones for gk, colgan did very well apart from one error akin to what we had become accustomed to previously v Tyrone, so for that I would keep him as number one. Of course without Nash and jones we have problems midfield, that been said I see a future for menton and Kennelly, yes it seems like Donal is taking a year off to travel and has told Andy this in plenty of time, so no excuses, now my mind is getting on a bit, but has McCarthy ever been tried for Meath? Is he eligible? And if he is, get him on panel asap, didn't get to see many club games this year, but that guy impressed me something shocking. So every thing should be done to get him on board. Also with Reilly Brennan and Conlon from cilles that makes a potentially very potent forward 6 with 2 others.

Ahh here Cian McBride is only 17, very very talented but not ready for atleast 2 years and I'd give him the full 3 at Under 20's

Agreed ref McCarthy. While I have been a huge supporter of Graham Reilly over the years but I cant see him holding down a starting bearth next year. Maybe Andy should look at him as a second half impact sub.

What about Daire Rowe and Barry Dardis? Also I think next year could see further development of Joey Wallace. And Andrew Tormey had a good season with Don / Ash though I did not see him in action myself. Is Ruairi O Coileain back from the US next year, if so worth another shot.

Regarding midfield I still think that Harry Rooney has the potential and should be persisted with. Remember John McDermott had some shaky years before he came good. I think him and Menton are our best option there until Jones returns full time.

Regarding defence, I would like to see Andy make an effort to get Brin Conlon, Alan Douglas and Cathal Finn back on to the panel. Is Paraic Harnan available next year? If so there is the makings of a pretty decent half back line with those 4. We need a mobile attacking unit there.

Full back line probably from Keoghan / McGill / McEntee / Lavin.

McCarthy as in Robbie McCarthy from dunboyne???? Are we that desperate. Not even close to county panel standard let alone getting near a starting 15. Don't read too much into the figure after his name in match reports. Majority of them are tap over frees or a simple score after his colleagues have drawn men away from him and popped it over to the totally free man. If he's tightly marked he is 100% taken out of the game. I would be much more in favour if trying to get tormey back in shape with a view to playing him at 14 and nowhere else. Gave mcgill a roasting in QF and has always been a great finisher

And also ive been a big fan of biggy and backed him up alot on here, but I think his role now is impact sub. Doesn't contribute enough anymore. Unless he can reinvent his game to play as an inside forward, he's big and fast enough to win alot and we know he's accurate.

The talk is that both Gerry McEntee and Cormac O'Sullivan have left the backroom team and Colm Nally and Gary Rogers as a Goalkeeping coach will join the panel.
I also hear that Lenihan is going travelling so won't be available and the Wallace brothers and Cian O'Brien won't be apart of the panel however Mickey Newman is back.

Any chance of James Toher coming back this year. Would offer something to this panel. A fully fit Andrew Tormey would offer a huge amount to this team. It must be so frustrating having to constantly deal with so much panel upheaval as this year in year out.

Gavin McCoy has been a standout player for Dunboyne this year, was added to the panel late last year. Would be another good option in the backs next year

Niall Kane (Simonstown) ? In fairness. Your squad is probably as good as it gets. Can't help but feel it looks like a Div2/Div3 National League squad. Not many big names to get excited about in this and not much different than previous years albeit less Ratoath lads. Do t know if that is good sign or bad. Think if the Wallace boys were coached properly they could be serious threat at county level. Get feeling their perhaps not coached properly or and them maybe their uncoachable. Hard to tell. But your squad whilst probably as good as it gets is hardly Division 1 standard

In fairness if you added Davy Mc Loughlin, Daire Rowe and maybe Ryan Moore and Sean Reilly to that list there would be a lot to work with. The only worry is how many players that we have listed will not commit to the cause.

We regularly bemoan the lack of talent in the county but when you can pick a front 6 from young pacey players like: Thomas Reilly, James Conlon, Ethan Devine, Barry Dardis, Darragh Campion, Davy Mc Loughlin, Daire Rowe, O' Sullivan, Newman, Mattimoe and Halligan; then its not all bad. There is no real target men in there but surely we could tailor a game plan that suits what we have to work with, im confident that there is enough in that list to trouble most defences in Division 2.
