Leinster club championships: Meath clubs set for provincial action

Leinster club championships: Meath clubs set for provincial action
Kilmessan, Dunderry, Rathmolyon and Duleek Bellewstown will all see provincial action over the weekend.

Meath hurling champions Kilmessan and Rathmolyon, along with Senior B finalists Dunderry, get their Leinster club campaigns up and running on Saturday, while Duleek-Bellewstown will lead the county's football challenge into provincial action on Sunday.

After claiming their first Jubilee Cup title in 13 years, Kilmessan take on Laois intermediate champions Castletown in the Leinster Club Intermediate Hurling Championship quarter-final at St Loman's Park, Trim.

Ger Cuddy's charges bounced back from relegation last year to overcome a Camross second-string side by 2-23 to 1-22 in the Laois intermediate final.

Eight-time Laois senior champions Castletown have had Ryan Mullaney, Martin Phelan and Jack Breen involved with the county team, which defeated Carlow in this year's Joe McDonagh Cup final.

Kilmessan got their last venture into Leinster off to a winning start with three points to spare over Dublin's Parnell's, but subsequently lost out to Wexford's Buffers Alley by 3-13 to 3-10 in the semi-final at St Loman's Park.

Beaten Senior B finalists Dunderry will represent Meath in the Leinster Junior Hurling Championship, as winners Kilskyre/Moylagh are an amalgamation.

They take on Dublin junior champions Clanna Gael Fontenoy at Dunganny. The Ringsend outfit defeated St Peregrine's in their county final before overcoming Louth senior side St Fechin's by 1-14 to 1-13 in the opening round of the provincial championship.

Meath intermediate champions Rathmolyon make the trip to Arklow to take on the home side in the Leinster Club Special Hurling Championship semi-final.

Arklow Rock Parnell were beaten 4-11 to 1-9 by Western Gaels in the Wicklow Intermediate Hurling Championship final.

Duleek-Bellewstown will lead the Meath charge into provincial football action as the Leinster club championships get underway this weekend.

Fresh from ending a 21-year wait for intermediate championship glory, Anthony Malone's side are Kilkenny-bound on Sunday as they prepare to take on Mullinavat in their opening provincial encounter at John Locke Park, Callan.

The 'Vegas Boys' claimed their eighth Kilkenny Senior Football Championship title in ten years, and ninth overall, when they defeated local rivals Tullogher-Rosbercon in the final back in May.

Trim, in 2021, were the last Meath side to face Kilkenny opposition in this competition and went on to secure provincial honours.
