Wolfe Tones 1-17 Summerhill 0-14
Wolfe Tones got the better of holders Summerhill to qualify for the Meath Senior Football Championship final with this commanding display in front of a large crowd at Devenish Park, Dunganny.
The 2021 champions controlled most of this game. Caolan Ward put the Tones two in front in the early stages, while Eoghan Frayne kicked three points to keep Summerhill in touch.
The teams were level at 0-5 each at the end of the first quarter before Tones took a grip on proceedings. Kyle Moran raised the game’s only green flag and points from Thomas O’Reilly and Oisin Martin had Shane McCoy’s men five in front.
Summerhill hit back with a two-pointer from Billy Shaw and a single from Barry Dardis. Martin added his third before a Moran two-pointer restored that five-point advantage at the break.
Half-time: Wolfe Tones 1-10 Summerhill 0-8.
Sean Penny made it a six-point game early in the second half. Jack Bannon, up from the corner-back position, kicked a two-pointer before Adam McDonnell and Ward traded scores, and with a quarter remaining Wolfe Tones still held that five-point advantage.
Tones put the game to bed over the next ten minutes. Moran and Martin pointed before Ward landed a massive two-pointer from a free.
The champions were on the ropes but kept battling. A two-pointer from Davy Larkin and a pointed free from Frayne narrowed the gap and, despite laying siege to the Tones goal in the closing minutes, Summerhill could not make any further headway on the scoreboard.
Wolfe Tones will take on Donaghmore Ashbourne in the final on Sunday, 18 October in Ashbourne.
