IHC B semi final: Goals crucial as Boardsmill down Trim

Boardsmill 3-15 Trim 1-13

Boardsmill booked their place in the Intermediate Hurling Championship B final with this eight point win over Trim at Devenish Park.

The Town side held the upper hand when these two met in round 5 two weeks previous.

The impressive Stevie Gibbons raised the first green flag of the day after ten minutes to push his side 1-3 to 0-2 in front. Five minutes later Eamonn Roche was in for goal number two and Boardsmill were in control. Fergal Flattery and Jim Roche added to their lead before Josh Ayton brought Trim back into the game with a goal. Cathal Wall and Neil McLoughlin had the last say of the half and Boardsmill went to the break 2-8 to 1-4 in front. 

Four early strikes from Ruairi McCaffrey had the lead down to four with ten minutes gone in the second half. Luke Gallagher (2) and Gibbons steadied the Boardsmill ship and with a quarter remaining they led 2-13 to 1-9. Trim didn’t give up. McCaffrey (2), Oisin Hackett made it a four point game with five minutes remaining.

Any hopes of a Town comeback were quashed when Cathal Wall found the back of the net and Boardsmill were on their way to the final against Wolfe Tones in Athboy on Sunday October 11th.
