JACFC Div 1 semi final: Seneschalstown bow out

Seneschalstown 1-16 Trim 6-12

Seneschalstown exited Meath Cleaning Supplies Junior All-County Football Championship Division 1 at the hands of a strong Trim outfit on Tuesday evening in Fr. Tully Park. The Reds ability to get goals was the deciding factor in this game and the four they plundered in the first half left Seneschalstown with a mountain to climb after the break.

A goal and a two point score gave Trim an early five point advantage before Jamie Norris got Seneschalstown on the board with a two point free. However another goal and orange flag left Seneschalstown eight in arrears ten minutes in.

Seán Davis kicked a free for Seneschalstown in the thirteenth minute which was answered at the other end immediately.

Seneschalstown tried to make further inroads into the visitors lead as Liam Maguire and Seán Davis from a free kicked points either side of another two point free from goalkeeper Norris to leave four points in it after twenty minutes.

However Trim stretched their lead with another 2-04 in a four minute spell as Seneschalstown did not help themselves by being so open at the back. The only riposte from Seneschalstown in this spell was a fine two point effort from Teean Cummins to the right of the 40 metre arc as the gap was now double digits.

The last score of the half did go the way of the men in blue and yellow from a third two point free of the half from Jamie Norris as the scoreboard read 4-07 to 0-11 at the break.

Seneschalstown did enjoy a positive start to the second half as Norris carried over his form from the opening half by kicking a long range free for two points almost straight away before Seán Davis and Cian Hosie added white flags and with the gap down to four points maybe Seneschalstown were done yet.

However, after the home side squandered some other chances Trim punished them at the other end to keep the scoreboard ticking over and despite Johnny Gilsenan pointing on the three quarter mark, the winners got their fifth goal ten minutes from time to put the result beyond doubt.

Seneschalstown did grab a consolation goal when Donie Commons got on the end of a Johnny Gilsenan centre to palm to the net but  it was immaterial at this stage as Trim compounded matters with a sixth goal in stoppage time and book their place in the final.

Despite a hood group stage for Seneschalstown they will be disappointed to lose in the last four for the second year running but the club overall will take the positives from this team throughout the season.

Seneschalstown would also like to wish a speedy recovery to the Trim centre back who picked up an injury towards the end of the game.
