SFC quarter final: Tones leave it late to advance

A goal in the closing minutes of this entertaining Senior Football Championship quarter final from Kyle Moran was the decisive score as Wolfe Tones qualified for the semi final at the expense of neighbours Rathkenny at Devenish Park.

Wolfe Tones led at the break 0-8 to 0-6 thanks to fine scores from Thomas O’Reilly (3), Coalan Ward (3), Oisin Martin and Fiachra Ward. Keith Curtis accounted for four of the Rathkenny tally.

Curtis had the sides level early in the second half with a two pointer free and the county man repeated the same trick to put his side 0-10 to 0-8 in front at the end of the third quarter.

With five minutes to go the sides were level 0-11 each before Moran got through for the games only goal. Thomas O’Reilly made it a four point game. Before the final whistle Keith Curtis landed another two pointer to make it a nervy finish for the Tones but time ran out and they secured a semi final spot against holders Summerhill.
