Much better weather conditions in Athboy than the previous round, and a pitch in perfect order, for this final round of the group phase in the SHBC. Unlike previous rounds, Kilskyre/Moylagh got off to a good start with immediate pressing forcing a turnover that resulted in a point from play from Willie McGrath in the opening minute. Longwood levelled a minute later from a free, before Kilskyre/Moylagh got a hold of the game with some nice passages of play, with points from Connor Rennicks, Tom Shine and the busy minor, Luke Harte, who impressed before being substituted at half-time.

Longwood, without their target man and leader, Damo Healy, stuck at it but, without really threatening in the forwards, were reliant on shooting from distance which, in fairness to them, they did convert from the few chances they had, keeping the score to a manageable 0-12 to 0-07 deficit at the interval.

Neither side really took hold of the game in the second half. Kilskyre/Moylagh, who were definitely the better side in the first half, were sloppy and, whilst never under real threat from Longwood, they didn’t push on and were guilty of spilling a few gilt-edged shots at goal, something they won’t get away with in a final regardless of who the opposition is. The one goal they did get was well worked and well executed by Michael Geraghty who, at that stage, had moved into the forwards with Daire Shine’s return to play and into his regular centre-back slot.

For Kilskyre/Moylagh, it’s five from five, but that will mean nothing to them if they don’t do the business on the big day when it matters.

For Longwood, as the results unfolded elsewhere, they are through to a semi-final against Dunderry, the winners of which will face Kilskyre/Moylagh on Saturday, the 10th of October, in the SHBC final.
