JACFC Div 7: Nobber maintain 100% winning record

Nobber made the short trip on Friday evening last to face their neighbours Drunconrath in their Meath GAA JACFC Division 7 Group B championship encounter. In what proved an ideal evening for football weatherwise, supporters were treated to a blockbuster of scores from the back and ambers played under Friday night lights.

The opening 10 minutes were a tight affair with little separating the local rivals. After the opening quarter of play, Nobber had tallied 2 – 5 on the scoreboard where their opponents managed 0 – 3. There was a widespread range of scorers from the Deesiders including Jojo Ogunbe scoring a goal and a point, full forward Jamie Duffy raising a white flag along with midfielder Ryan Hughes. Centre forward Joe Tierney put in a man of the match performance and was unmarkable on the evening. He started his scoring early in the game and continued his fine form throughout. During the first half Tierney hit 1 – 3 for Sean Carolans’s charges. Other scores came from the lively and energetic centre back Brendan Heffernan with a classy score into the clubhouse end of the ground and the talented youngster Korede Otubango scoring a goal just before the half-time interval.

Otubango continued his fine form in the second period and kicked a further two points for the black and ambers. Duffy continued to notch over some scores at every opportunity and grabbed a couple of goals for the Nobber men during the third quarter. Niall McMahon in goals and the experienced Nobber full-back line of Gerry Campbell, Brian O’Reilly, and Johnny Donohue kept the red and white of Drumconrath quiet throughout. Nobber concluded their scoring through Ryan Hughes who proved a good link between defence and attack on the evening. Tierney was the main thorn in Drumconrath’s defence and he continued his fine form and dangerous play in the second half scoring a number of impressive points whilst showing good ball skills and direct running ability.

Sean Carolan and his management team including Benny Owens and Darren Lambe will be happy after their team’s performance. Nobber advance to the knockout stages after having a 100% winning record in the group stages and await their opponents in the knockout stages.
