O’Mahonys welcomed Kildalkey to Paddy O’Brien park for the second round of the Senior B camogie championship on Tuesday evening. Having disappointed in their opening round fixture against Trim, the Navan girls were keen to get their campaign back on track with a win. In close to perfect conditions with no wind and a dry sod, the home side started brightly. Early scores from Isabel O’Connor, Lauren Woods and Aoibhin Kielty settled the team. At the other end of the field, Alannah Brady and Amanda Feeney defended well. Midway through the first half centre back Tara Fay picked out O’Connor with a brilliant long delivery that ended with a well taken goal and gave O’Mahonys a commanding lead that they would not relinquish. A clever, improvised kicked point from Jorja Keogh who won a lot of possession in the middle third, put further day light between the teams.

Despite their slow start, Kildalkey worked hard to get back into the game in the second half. County minor Aoife Dunne burst out from her corner back position with several important interceptions. Ellie Potterton was a constant threat from placed balls, blasting a penalty to the O’Mahonys net with 10 minutes to go and also having another couple of efforts cleared off the goal line. For the home side, the highlights of a solid second half display were a couple of excellent high catches from wing back Roisin Tobin, who played well throughout and some well struck long distance frees from Lauren Donegan.

The Navan girls will host Dunboyne in Round 3 looking to build on this performance with further improvements across the team.
