Moynalvey Ladies Tuesday evening trek to Stamullen proved to be a successful one as they came away with a five point win in round two of the Kepak Junior ‘A’ Football Championship.

A wet and dreary Tuesday night saw Moynalvey overcome old rivals St. Patricks on a five point margin to maintain their winning start and move top of the Junior ‘A’ Group B Table after two rounds.

Little separated the sides throughout with the lead switching sides throughout the first half and the soaked sides heading for the warmth of the dressing rooms level at half time, 1-4 apiece at the break.

It was St. Patricks who got off to the best possible start raising the first green flag of the game within the opening minute. Roisin Murphy opened Moynalvey’s account in the 4th minute and three minutes later the visitors took the lead when the other Murphy sister Clodagh palmed home to the St. Patricks net after Aoife O’Shea unselfishly squared across the goal for the assist, 1-1 to 0-1.

A brace of St. Patricks frees put them one up, with Moynalvey responding with an Aoife O’Shea free to draw the sides level for a second time.

Another St. Patricks free put them ahead again in the 21st minute, but a pair of Aoife O’Shea frees regained the lead for Moynalvey, before St. Patricks had the final say of the half when levelling for a third time to leave the half time score board read 1-4 apiece.

Five minutes after the restart St. Patricks pointed again, but the game’s third goal then came via Charlene Murray who had been introduced as a first half substitute for the injured Rachel Garrett who finished to the St. Patricks net while under severe pressure, now 2-4 to 1-5 to Moynalvey.

St. Patricks responded to Murray’s goal with a pair of points to level matters for a fourth time, 2-4 to 1-7 ten minutes into the second half.

Then came Moynalvey’s purple patch of scoring when they reeled off 1-3 without reply between the 46th and 50th minutes, the scoring started by a rocket of a shot by Aoife O’Shea from an acute angle blasted to the roof of the St. Patricks net giving the ‘keeper no chance, Louise Donoghue then took a free to Stephanie Walsh with Donoghue taking the return to split the uprights, an Aoife O’Shea free and Stephanie Walsh pointed after being set up by a bursting run down the middle from Olivia O’Halloran, now six between the sides, 3-7 to 1-7 with ten minutes remaining.

The final ten minutes finished with a trio of frees, two to St. Patricks and an Aoife O’Shea free for Moynalvey to leave the final score 3-8 to 1-9 when referee Podge Coyle blew his full time whistle.

Best for Moynalvey were Aoife O’Shea, Olivia O’Halloran, Abbie Killalea, Cheyenne O’Brien, Louise Donoghue, Clodagh Murphy and Charlene Murray.
