O’Mahony’s got their campaign back on track in the IFC with a convincing win over Longwood in Athboy on Sunday afternoon, with twelve scorers across a good team effort.

Cormac Nugent opened the scoring after two minutes, before Longwood took the lead with a two-pointer from play. On the ten-minute mark, points from Ronan Clarke, Niall McGrane and Niall Higgins had pushed O’Mahony’s back into a three-point lead. The first time distance was put between the sides was when James O’Reilly found the net after a good run.

Longwood responded with a point but ten minutes later, the lead was extended to eleven with points from Clarke, Aodhan Mallon and Jack Quinn as well as a Duggie Dillon goal. Clarke and Paddy Dillon added scores with Longwood kicking the last score of the half.

O’Mahony’s consolidated their lead early in the second half, with O’Reilly and Nugent extending the lead for the Brews Hill men. Sixteen points separated the sides when Longwood scored their only goal and this lead was reinstated within sixty seconds when Nugent found the net.

Longwood kicked an impressive two-pointer free but O’Mahony’s kept the scoreboard ticking over with Clarke and Nugent adding to their earlier tallies. Substitutes made their mark too as Evan Coffey volleyed a ball in the square over the bar before Shane McCarthy scored within seconds of his introduction. Longwood’s last score of the game came via a two-pointer free but O’Mahony’s finished out strong with Mallon, Keelaghan and McCarthy all splitting the posts, with the latter also scoring O’Mahony’s fourth goal. A late opportunity for a Longwood goal was denied by a clearance from Jamie O’Reilly with the assistance of Mallon and McGrane.
