St. Vincents 3-16 Carnaross 0-22

St Vincents got back to winning ways after there first round draw to curraha with a hard fought win against Carnaross in Bective.

Carnaross got off to a flying start, coming out of the blocks strongly and putting early pressure on Vincent’s. Their fast start was rewarded as they built up a 4–1 lead inside the opening 10 minutes, and also being 7 points up at one stage with Vincent’s struggling to settle into the game.

However, Vincent’s responded brilliantly and began to find their rhythm. Shane Andrews provided a huge boost with a well-taken goal, giving Vincent’s some much-needed momentum. Not long after, Adam Tuite produced a brilliant finish to find the back of the net and bring Vincent’s right back into the contest. The two goals completely changed the momentum of the game and gave Vincent’s confidence going forward.

Despite the strong response, Vincent’s were let down by their accuracy in front of the posts, kicking a number of wides and failing to make the most of several attacking opportunities. Carnaross, on the other hand, were extremely clinical when chances came their way and punished Vincent’s for their missed opportunities.

As the half progressed, Carnaross managed to regain control and continued to take their scores when they presented themselves. Vincent’s worked hard to stay in touch, but their inability to convert chances into scores proved costly. Carnaross finished the half strongly and went into the break with a four-point advantage.

Vincent’s knew they would have to improve their shooting and be more clinical in the second half if they were to turn the game around.

Vincent’s came out of the second half with a completely different intensity and looked determined to build on their strong finish to the opening period. From the very first throw-up, they showed great hunger, with Michael McIvor winning possession and immediately finding Adam Tuite. Tuite made no mistake with the opportunity, calmly splitting the posts to get Vincent’s off to the perfect start.

As the half progressed, Vincent’s began to take control of the game, particularly around the middle third. Their ability to win the kick-outs from both ends of the pitch gave them a huge advantage, with Matthew Tuite playing a key role in securing possession and helping Vincent’s launch attack after attack. The increased possession allowed Vincent’s to dictate the pace of the game and put the Carnaross defence under sustained pressure.

Adam Tuite continued to cause problems for Carnaross, adding further points to his tally and showing excellent composure whenever a scoring opportunity presented itself. Conor Harford and Michael McIvor also contributed with important scores, as Vincent’s began to find more space and move the ball with greater confidence.

Richie O’Sullivan proved to be an excellent impact substitute when he was introduced. He immediately brought fresh energy to the Vincent’s attack and made his presence felt, kicking two very important points. His contribution helped Vincent’s maintain the pressure and gave the team another attacking option as the game entered its later stages.

Shane Caffrey was also outstanding, particularly with his powerful runs through the centre of the pitch. His direct running caused real problems for the Carnaross defence, forcing them to retreat and opening up space for the Vincent’s forwards. Caffrey’s ability to carry the ball at pace and break through the middle became a major feature of Vincent’s attacking play.

Carnaross, however, refused to let the game slip away from them and continued to show plenty of fight. Their number 9 was particularly impressive, producing some excellent long-range shooting and kicking three 2-pointers to keep Carnaross within striking distance. His accuracy from distance gave Carnaross an important outlet when they were under pressure.

Vincent’s continued to push forward and eventually got the reward their pressure deserved. A well-worked attack created an opening for Conor Harford, who finished clinically to the back of the net, securing Vincent’s third goal of the match. The goal was another huge moment for Vincent’s and highlighted the confidence and attacking intent they had shown throughout the second half.

With Vincent’s controlling possession, winning the majority of the kick-outs and creating chances from all areas of the pitch, they were beginning to take a firm grip on the game. The performances of Matthew Tuite, Adam Tuite, Michael McIvor, Shane Caffrey and Richie O’Sullivan and Conor Harford  were particularly important as Vincent’s continued to drive forward and put Carnaross under pressure.

It was a much-improved second-half display from Vincent’s, with the team showing excellent work rate, composure and determination to turn the momentum in their favour.
