Oldcastle 4-13, Ballivor 0-06
Oldcastle continued their good championship form with this commanding round 2 display against Ballivor at Ballinlough.
Oldcastle stamped their intentions on this match literally from the first play of the game, Oran Mulvanny winning the throw in, on to Jason Scully and back to Oran, to Shane Boylan, to James Cooke and Pat Crawley, upfield and a great catch from Ryan Halpin, on to Paul Hennessey, to Colin Hawdon, to Pearse Sheridan, back to Collie, goal chances denied but back to Ryan Halpin who fisted her in to the back of the net! Only two minutes gone and Oldcastle were a goal up! Shane Boylan added another point with the next play, before Ballivor took their first point, followed soon after by a free. Ballivor were threatening again soon after but a Cian McPartland clearance found Steven Lawless, on to Rory Crawley, to Jason Scully on a run, in to Pearse and finally to Colin Hawdon for a second Oldcastle goal! A lovely point from Pat Crawley followed, with Ballivor adding another free. Those three points were to be the end of their scoring for the first half though, with clearances from Oran O’Reilly and Dylan Garrigan rock solid, Oldcastle dominated the remaining ten minutes and added on another point from Colin Hawdon, and a super two-pointer from Paul Hennessey, to leave it Oldcastle 2-06, Ballivor 0-03 at the break.
Missed opportunities from both sides in the opening minutes of the second half, but Ballivor looked very dangerous with a belter of a goal shot, only saved by a super effort from Michael Galligan! Ballivor were in possession again soon after when Oran Mulvanny made a super interception, fed in to Pearse Sheridan for a point. Ballivor seemed to go to pieces then; Pat Crawley adding more points, a goal and point from Shane Boylan and another point from Colin Hawdon. Just when Ballivor thought it couldn’t get any worse, a Rory Crawley catch fed on via Colin Hawdon reached Pat and then the back of the net, for Oldcastle’s fourth goal! Ballivor supporters were leaving in droves now, the writing was on the wall. Two more points from Pearse Sheridan and a late rally of a point plus a two pointer from the opposition left the final score Oldcastle 4-13, Ballivor 0-06.
