Tones were rocked by three first half goals and had to claw their way back in to the game before a late surge saw them emerge victorious in a hugely competitive and entertaining game. Tones goalie Ken Boyd had to retire injured and was replaced by the returning Joe Smith who acquitted himself well. After some shaky moments early on the Tones defence steadied up with Sheppard, Murray and Donegan prominent. Evan Curley's accuracy from long range was crucial, and he was well supported by Sean McKeown on the scoring front, with 14 points between them.
