Kilmessan 4-16 Trim 1-19
Kilmessan moved into pole position in the Meath Senior Hurling Championship after this thrilling win over neighbours Trim on Pitch 6 at Devenish Park.
A second half scoring spree from full forward Seanie Doyle along with some outstanding goal keeping from Sean Power was the difference between these two Jubilee Cup contenders.
Trim got a great start with an Alan Douglas goal and a brace from the impressive James Murray and by the end of the first quarter they were 1-6 to 0-3 in front. Kilmessan needed a spark and Mark Horan provided it with a fine goal. Minutes later Darragh Horan raised another green flag and a Doyle point had Charlie Keena’s men in front. Murray added his 8th point of the half and the teams went to the break level 2-6 to 1-9.
Davy Murtagh put the Town side back in front with the first point of the second half but from there on Kilmessan dominated. Kevin Keena and Lorcan Byrne sent over two massive scores before Doyle was in for his first goal. Darragh Horan and Keena added points and Kilmessan were 3-10 to 1-11 in front. Murray was keeping Trim in the game and as the last ten minutes approached Kilmessan held a 3-14 to 1-15 lead. Doyle put the game to bed with his second goal with five minutes remaining.
Next up for the winners are Na Fianna while Trim turn their action to Kiltale.
