Navan O’Mahony’s lost out to Dunderry in the third round of the Senior B HC, struggling to get the scores needed in wintery conditions in Trim on Sunday afternoon.

Dunderry opened the scoring immediately following the throw-in, following up with a second point a minute later. O’Mahony’s first score came in the third minute when Tom Condon set up Eoghan Nugent for a point.

By the tenth minute, the score was 0-05 to 0-3 in favour of Dunderry with Darragh Connell and Killian Murphy hitting two impressive scores from play. By the fifteen minute mark, frees from Connell and Jack Walsh drew the sides level. A point from play from Sean McDermott gave O’Mahony’s the lead for the only time in the match.

The lead swapped hands when Dunderry found the net in the seventeenth minute. The sides exchanged points, with Walsh converting a free and a 65 and Paddy Dillon hitting a good score from play. The final score of the half came when John Foley deflected a goal-shot from a free over the bar and Dunderry went in with a three point advantage.

The second minute of the half saw Walsh reduce the gap to two points but in the following fifteen minutes, Dunderry tacked on another five points to lead by seven.

O’Mahony’s backs and midfield made some impressive interceptions and blocks in this period, with Cormac Keyes, Max Condon and Ben McEntagart all putting Dunderry under pressure.

With ten minutes to go, O’Mahony’s got their final score of the game through a Walsh free. With time running out and goals the only option, the Brews Hill side created a number of opportunities but Dunderry stood firm in defence and proved impenetrable.

The final two scores of the match came for Dunderry, removing the game from O’Mahony’s reach with eight points separating the sides at full time.
