Ratoath 0-20 Kildalkey 1-14

Kildalkey junior hurlers travelled to Ratoath on Sunday morning and after a great effort just came up short by 3 points to a strong Ratoath in the first round of the JHC.

A haul of 1-10 from James Cully wasn’t enough for a depleted Kildalkey outfit who were short a few key players however they can’t be faulted for their efforts as they battled to the final whistle.

Ratoath led by 0-12 to 0-4 at the break and were lively with a younger sharper team who generally were first to the ball and found their range that bit easier.

Kildalkey were getting the shots in but hit 9 wides in that half (12 in total) to Ratoaths 5, Kildalkeys scores came from James Cully with 2 Eoghan Monaghan and Francis Doran and although they were finding it hard to find the range they defended brilliantly to keep in the game.

Although winning the second half 1-10 to 0-8 it wasn’t enough for the blues but as the game seemed to be drifting away some brilliant points from James Cully and Eoghan Monaghan kept them in touch and a brilliant individual goal from Cully with a couple of minutes to go left only 2 in it but Ratoath got the bounce of the ball from the next puck out and put 3 in it again as the final whistle sounded.

However Kildalkey’s huge effort has to be commended as every player gave his all against strong opposition.
