O’Mahony’s got off to a good start in the Junior HC in the Trim Road on Friday evening, beating a Killyon side that sent them out of the competition in 2025. 

The first score came when a long-range Diarmuid Collins shot ended in the net, giving O’Mahony’s a great start. Points from Kilian Clarke Doggett and Eoghan McDermott extended the lead for O’Mahony’s.

Throughout the half, O’Mahony’s back-line made scoring difficult for the visitors, with Cormac O’Shea, Aaron Gavin and Riordan Russell proving hard to penetrate in the half-back line. Helped by a second Collins goal and Diarmuid Keyes splitting the posts on his introduction and O’Mahony’s held a nine point lead approaching half time.  A late goal for Killyon left six points between the sides at half time.

Killyon fought back in the second half and were always within touching distance, especially after their second goal. Netminder Max Lafford made some impressive saves throughout and the full back line of Michael Reavey, Peter McLoughlin and Diarmuid O Bric kept scores low.

O’Mahony’s scores in the second half were also kept low, with Collins managing a free. The midfield duo of Colm O’Toole and Dáithí Wade worked hard throughout the sixty minutes and were duly rewarded with scores, which proved crucial at the end.

With four points between the sides as the clock ran down, Killyon tried desperately for scores but were held off by the home side and a first round win was secured.
