July 17, 2026

Charlie Twomey gains possession for Gaeil Colmcille during the MFL Division 3 final against Moynalty at Kilmainham.

Gaeil Colmcille 0-21 Moynalty 2-14

Gaeil Colmcille and Moynalty played out a cracker of a Final under the Kilmainham sunshine with the Kells side pipping their North Meath neighbours by Tadhg Walsh point with what was practically the last kick of the game.

Moynalty came out in blistering fashion and could have easily went to for a goal from their first attack but the Moynalty attacker opted to fist over Caoimhin Jordan's head in the Kells goal. Moynalty doubled their lead soon after before Gaeil Colmcille got their opening score thanks to Harry Butler. A Ryan Campbell free had the teams level with 10 minutes played.

Points Campbell and Fionn Morris saw Kells push two clear and the sides traded the next two scores with Butler tapping over a free kick. Michael Gormley and Dillon Glynn stretched The Gaeils lead. Moynalty kept in touch but Butler and Campbell kept the Kells scoreboard ticking.

Kells led by three coming up to the half time break but Moynalty got an equalising score when they goaled in the 28th minute. Kells had time to regain the lead before the break when Conor Óg Ferguson struck a two pointer to see Kells lead 0-12 to 1-07 at he break.

Moynalty like the first half started the half the stronger and it seemed like every attack they went on resulted in a point and they hit four scores to none from Gaeil Colmcille to lead by two. Gaeil Colmcille lifted themselves and Charlie Twomey and Dillon Glynn pointed to draw the sides level again.

Both sides traded the next four scores with Butler adding two scores. Just ahead of the water break Moynalty pounced for their second goal of the game and took a three-point lead with 15 minutes remaining. Credit to Kells they rallied after the water break and were back on level terms with three scores in a row from Twomey, Butler and substitute Tadhg Walsh.

Moynalty once again took the lead with five minutes remaining and it looked as if was going to be the Moynalty men night but an outside of the boot score from Campbell was followed by the winner from Walsh to the large roar from the Kells players and support. From the resulting kick, Kells retained possession and Referee Peter O'Halloran blew for full time. Captain Max Chamberlayne accepted the trophy from Youth secretary Enda Lydon.
