Loughcrew Gaels/Gaeil Colmcille 8-14 Kilmessan 4-9
Loughcrew Gaels/Gaeil Colmcille claimed the Meath Under 14 Division 1 hurling league title in fine style with this win over Kilmessan in perfect conditions at Fr. Plunkett Park Kildalkey.
Kilmessan led 1-2 to 0-3 after 10 minutes thanks to a fine goal from Charlie Comiskey. The winners took control of proceedings in the second quarter with a Fionn Owens goal and points from Danny Keane (3), Killian Connell, Peter Barrett and Owens to take a 1-9 to 1-5 interval lead.
The combination side took complete control in the second half. The introduction of Jack Farrell to the full forward line has the desired effect. Keane and Owens extended their lead with early goals. Kilmessan hit back with their second major through Jamie Reynolds but by the 20th minute Loughcrew Gaels/Gaeil Colmcille were well on their way to the title with a hat trick from Ciaran McNamee and one from Farrell. Kilmessan kept going and were rewarded with fine efforts from Eoin Horan and Reynolds. Half forward McNamee had the last say with his 4th major.
After the game Enda Lydon presented the cup to joint captains Danny Keane and Peter Barrett.
