St Ultans 2-12 Clann na Gael 1-12

St Ultans secured promotion and place in the league final but they had to battle all the way to the final whistle.

Clann na Gael started brightly with two points to get an early lead. Ultans first score of the game was a well worked goal, Dylan Byrne won a break in midfield and found Darren Mallon in space, he drove forward and passed to Adam Rogers who finished it to the net. Clann na Gael responded really well with four points and were dominant at this stage. Tom Brennan and Conor Smyth responded for the visitors but the home side pushed on again with a two pointer from play and two further scores. The damage could have been a lot worse but Ultans keeper Simon Yore made a number of good saves. Tom Brennan rounded of the scoring to leave Ultans four behind at the break.

Ultans started the second half in determined fashion with points from Luke Griffin and Adam Rogers but were dealt a blow when the home side found the net. An underhit 45 was caught by a Clann na Gael player who made no mistake rattling the ball into the net. Darragh Reilly and Richie Lynagh pointed in response. Clann na Gael pointed again but Luke Griffin and Darragh Reilly closed the gap to two before the water break. Tommy Buchanan scored a  two pointer from play to draw the sides level. The next score would be crucial and it was a green flag for Ultans with Darren Mallon finishing to the net after good work by Adam Rogers. Ultans defended very well for the remainder of the game and restricted Clann na Gael to just one more point from a 45. Charlie O’Brien finished the scoring with a point to secure victory and promotion.

The game was also Sean Ennis first for St Ultans and he made a big contribution to the game with multiple turnovers.  St Ultans will now play Bective in the League final.
