Navan O’Mahony’s 2-17
St Patricks 0-08
O’Mahony’s had a comfortable win over St Patricks in the final round of the Div 2 FL, played in sunshine in Paddy O’Brien Park, albeit with a wind blowing.
Paddy Dillon opened the scoring and by the tenth minute had been joined by Robbie Keelaghan, Niall Higgins and Aodhan Mallon to give O’Mahony’s a six-point advantage at this stage. Mallon added another point two minutes later and ten points separated the sides when Ronan Clarke found the net, following an impressive save from the netminder from a Cormac Nugent shot.
Higgins, from the ground, and Clarke added further scores before St Pats first score of the match came in the twenty-ninth minute. The visitors added to this quickly and scored the final two scores of the half.
Navan O’Mahony’s 1-09
St Patricks 0-03
St Pats started the second half with a quick score. A good interception from James O’Reilly sent the clearance to Conor Brady who was fouled, with this play resulting in Nugent fisting the ball over the bar.
Five minutes later an O’Reilly shot was narrowly off-target, hitting the post before Finnegan won the breaking ball and fired it to the net, effectively ending the game as a contest.
For the remainder of the half, the sides exchanged points with Clarke, Mallon and Nugent adding to their earlier tallies for O’Mahony’s. Just as in the first half, St Pats finished off strong and kicked the final scores of the match.
