Gaeil Colmcille 5-13 St. Pats 3-14
Gaeil Colmcille hurlers picked up early silverware with this five point win over St. Pats in the Meath Division 4 hurling league final played at Paddy O’Brien Park.
A strong second quarter display set the Kells men on the road to victory. Conor Og Ferguson was outstanding for the winners in the opening half. The rising Gaeils star finished the game with 3-9, 3-7 of that total coming in the opening half. Goals from Declan Lenehan and Gerrard Smyth kept the Stamullen men in the game as Gael Colmcille went to the half time huddle 4-9 to 2-8 in front, their 4th major coming from full forward Dylan Roche.
Roche extended that lead with 1-1 in the early stages of the second half. St. Pats enjoyed more possession in the final quarter and when Gareth McGuinness got in for their 3rd goal the lead was down to 5 with 5 minutes remaining. Ferguson and Lenehan traded points before and along with some brave defending Gaeil Colmcille held on for the win.
After the game Fintan Porter presented the Division 4 HL cup to Gaeil Colmcille captain Evan Sheridan.
