Gaeil Colmcille's Ajay Tormey

Wolfe Tones 0-13
Gaeil Colmcille 3-15

Gaeil Colmcille got back to winning ways with an eleven point victory over Wolfe Tones on Saturday evening at Gibbstown. Goals were the difference with Muldoon Bash Brothers Adam and Jordan grabbed a goal each while Ajay Tormey hit Kells third goal early in the second half to help secure a semi final spot in the League.

Gaeil Colmcille played against a strong breeze in the first half in Gibbstown but that didn't stop corner back Fionn Smith flying up the pitch to get the opening score of the game. Using the conditions in their favour, Wolfe Tones responded with a two pointer to take the lead 0-02 to 0-01 but an Andrew Gormley free drew the teams level once again. Both sides traded scores with Gormley adding another free and when Adam Muldoon intercepted a cross field ball and fired to the roof of the net Kells led by 1-03 to 0-03.

Charlie Twomey pointed after a quick hands move by Barry Tormey and another Gormley free left five between the teams. The move of the half came before the break when Jordan Muldoon finished off a great move to shoot low to the back of the net for a 2-05 to 0-05 lead after D'Tones hit a second two pointer. The home side hit the last score of the half and a third two pointer to see them trail 0-07 to 2-06 after Gormley struck a fourth free.

With the wind in their sails, Gaeil Colmcille came out of the traps in the second half in lightening pace, Ajay Tormey pointed in the opening couple of minutes and that was followed by a Dan Farrelly two pointer. Evan Sheridan was quick thinking from a free and found Tormey who rounded the Tones defender to shoot low for Kells third goal. An Adam Donnelly two pointer rounded off Kells good start to the half and their lead stood at 3-11 to 0-07.

Wolfe Tones struck two points either side of an Oisin Reilly point. Andrew Gormley had a chance for a fourth goal after he gathered an advanced mark but he saw his effort go to the left and wide, Gormley made no mistake from the resulting free. There was still time for a third two pointer of the half and the final score of the game when Brian Hanlon pointed to see Kells close out the game and guarantee a top 4 spot.
