Cortown 2-11
Simonstown 3-10
Simonstown ended Cortown's outside hopes of a Semi-Final spot thanks to a couple of injury time points on Sunday afternoon.
Despite trailing by eight at the interval, the hosts looked to have reeled in the second string midway through the second period but the gusty sky blues regained their composure despite a numerical disadvantage late on to seal the two points.
Goals at either end of the first half had Simonstown in a commanding 2-6 to 0-4 advantage after playing with the breeze at their backs. Scores from Hugh Staunton, Kian Fitzsimons, Tommy and Oisin Smith had just about kept the men in yellow in touch but with plenty to do.
However early second half two-pointers from Stevie Clarke and half-time substitute Cian Loughran helped to make inroads into the Simonstown lead. Oisin Smith following a foul on his older brother Tommy, converted a penalty past Robbie Burlingham to bring Davy Wright's side within touching distance on the three quarter mark.
Against the run of play, Kyle McEvoy stole in to register Simonstown's third goal of the day but Cortown immediately replied with a second penalty kick awarded by Paul Mooney. One of the Simonstown players took his protestations too far and received a second yellow. Smith again maintained his cool to send Burlingham the wrong way and level things up.
Both sides had opportunities thereafter but it was the away side who seized the moment late on to give themselves a morale boosting win ahead of the relegation play-offs.
