Moynalty returned to winning ways with a thrilling victory over St Ultans on Sunday morning in Moynalty, securing a valuable two points that all but eases any relegation concerns. With just one game remaining, the win lifts Moynalty into mid-table.
The home side got off to the perfect start when Paul Lynch opened the scoring with a well-worked goal from close range. The inspirational Paddy Byrne followed up with a point to give Moynalty an early cushion. Playing against a strong wind in the opening half, Moynalty faced a determined St Ultans side who made full use of the conditions. Two speculative long-range efforts kept the visitors in touch before Byrne added his second point of the game. St Ultans then struck with two superb two-point scores from distance to pile the pressure on the hosts.
However, Moynalty responded well. Podge O'Connor and Joey Gilsenan both got on the scoresheet to ensure the home side held a narrow advantage at the interval despite battling the difficult conditions.

Playing with the aid of the breeze in the second half, Moynalty started with real intent. Paddy Byrne set the tone early, landing a superb two-point effort from a very acute angle. However, St Ultans had other ideas. A swift counter-attack down the right carved open the Moynalty defence, allowing the visitors to find the back of Johnny Lynch's net.
The returning David Daly responded with a point before Bryan McCormack produced a magnificent two-point score from distance. Further points from Paul Lynch and Podge O'Connor appeared to put Moynalty back in control. But the visitors refused to go away. St Ultans breached the Moynalty rearguard twice in quick succession, scoring two goals to swing the momentum firmly in their favour. Paddy Byrne reduced the deficit, only for St Ultans to extend their lead with three unanswered points.
Showing tremendous character, Moynalty dug deep in the closing stages. Inspirational two-point scores from Paddy Byrne and Bryan McCormack brought the sides level as full-time approached. Then, deep into injury time, the ever-reliable Byrne held his nerve to split the posts with the winning point, with the final whistle arriving shortly afterwards to cap a thrilling contest.
